D-4 Police News

In through the out door

On Tuesday, Sept. 12, at about 8:02 a.m., police responded to 535 Boylston St. for a report of a male trespasser.

Officers observed the suspect standing outside that location before a John Hancock security guard notified them the suspect had entered Finagle A Bagel, walked upstairs and entered the adjoining office building via the emergency exit. When he pushed open the door, the suspect activated the alarm, causing occupants of the office to gather in the hallway, the security guard said.

A witness on the scene told police after the alarm sounded, the suspect began banging on his second-floor office door.

The suspect is known to police, as well as staff and security at 535 Boylston St. He had already received four, other verbal no-trespassing warnings and has been arrested on three other occasions in the past two weeks. During two of the arrests, officers sustained minor injuries.

The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to District 4 headquarters for booking.

Less than a gentleman

On Wednesday, Sept. 13, at approximately 9 a.m., police responded to a report of a student who was followed home from Cathedral High School at 74 Union Park St.

Upon arrival, the responding officer was approached by the assistant vice principal who introduced him to the victim.

The victim said she had been dismissed from school at around 2:40 p.m. the previous day and headed towards the Tufts Medical Center MBTA station to go home. While she was walking on Washington Street, she noticed a man following her, and when they reached the area of Alex’s Pizza at 1525 Washington St., he began lewdly propositioning her.

The victim ignored the suspect, who followed her to the train station, although at no time did he touch her.

The officer asked the victim to notify police if she saw the victim again and assured her that there would be a police presence that afternoon when school was dismissed.

In the clear

On Thursday, Sept. 14, at around 11:28 a.m., police responded to a radio call for a larceny in progress at the People’s United Bank branch at 800 Boylston St.

Upon arrival, officers spoke to the bank’s sales and service supervisor, who said a female suspect had entered the bank and attempted to cash a check for $685.10 after producing a Massachusetts state identification card and Social Security card as identification.

When the suspect was informed that it would take a few minutes for the check to clear, the suspect waited momentarily before saying she had to go to work and heading back inside the Prudential Center Mall.

Police searched the area for the suspect to no avail, although the bank might be able to furnish a surveillance video of the suspect.

Bank blunder

On Saturday, Sept. 16, at about 9:49 a.m., police responded to a radio call for a bank robbery at the People’s United Bank branch at 425 Boylston St.

On arrival, officers spoke to a teller, who said his coworker had left to get a cup of coffee when he observed  the male suspect dressed in all dark clothing and carrying a duffel bag entered the bank and began looking for deposit slips.

The suspect located a deposit slip, on which he wrote, “Give me all the cash! Quiet!” He then walked up to the counter and handed the slip to a teller, who notified the suspect that he couldn’t open the register without making a transaction. The suspect asked for the note back before fleeing the bank on foot empty-handed across Boylston Street towards Arlington Street.

Police searched the vicinity for the suspect to no avail.
