DCR scheduled to remove gangway to the Gloucester Street dock on the Esplanade

The state’s Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) was scheduled to remove the deteriorating gangway to the Gloucester Street dock on the Esplanade earlier this week, amid safety concerns.

“With removal of the gangway, DCR is working to address the ongoing public safety issues and ensure public are unable to access the dock,” according to a DCR spokesperson. “The dock is on DCR’s deferred maintenance inventory. Due to the deteriorated condition, a project to restore water access at this site will require a full replacement of the dock. We are currently looking into funding for design and permitting of the project. A full project cost or timeline has not been established yet.”

On Sunday, Aug. 16, the Boston Fire Department responded to a fire on the dock, which caused additional damage.
