That is the slogan, a rallying cry, that came out of the senseless bombings of the Boston Marathon in 2013. While the culprits and their associates are either dead or in jail, their actions still live on for the familes who lost their loved ones and the survivors that still carry the wounds that will be with them for life.
Boston’s sense of security was shattered that day. As Governor Baker said in his speech at Saturday’s unveiling of the Boston Strong sign, people remember what they were doing when they heard the news that day. For some of us who have run in the Marathon or live in the neighborhood, that day will be with us for life.
Boston residents responded to this heinous act of barbarism with dignity and fortitude. The long standing Boston Marathon has gone on. The shops and restaurants that were in the path of the bombs are operating and are full of customers.
As Bostonians look at the ever senseless bombings that have taken place in Paris and Brussels, we share the pain and the incredulity of these acts. We know what it is like to have family members put in harm’s way just for enjoying a beautiful spring day and trying to be part of a Boston tradition.
While our sense of security was shaken that day in 2013, our resolve and determination have never been deterred. We are Boston Strong.
