D-4 POLICE NEWS

Un-fare

On Monday, Oct. 2, at around 5:53 p.m., police responded to a radio call for a fare evasion at 771 Albany St.

Upon arrival, officers spoke to a taxi driver, who said he drove two male suspects to the Boston University Medical building, at which time they both jumped out of the cab without paying the $24.40 fare.

Police searched the area for the suspects to no avail.

Rough ride

On Tuesday, Oct. 3, at about 2:26 a.m., police responded to a radio call for a person shot at Storyville, located at 90 Exeter St.

On arrival, officers observed a large crowd of bystanders standing around the victim, who was lying on the sidewalk and holding his left thigh.

The victim told police he had tried to break up a fight in front of the bar when an unknown man brandished a silver handgun. When the victim told the suspect to put the weapon away, the victim said the suspect fired one round, striking the victim above his left kneecap and breaking his femur.

A witness on the scene told officers that he was cleaning up after closing at the adjacent Mini-Bar after closing when he heard a loud “popping” noise and walked outside to see the victim lying on the ground. The witness also said he saw a large group of females yelling at a group of males, telling them to flee the scene. The suspects then entered a dark-colored SUV, which was parked in a valet spot next to where the victim was shot, and drove way. The witness was able to provide police the license-plate number of the suspect’s vehicle, which was broadcast over police radio.

Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victims to Tufts Medical Center for further care as detectives photographed the crime scene. No evidence was recovered at that time.

At approximately 2:33 a.m., officers conducting traffic enforcement at Melnea Cass Boulevard and Albany Street observed a black Kia Sorento traveling at a high speed on Massachusetts Avenue. Upon checking the license-plate number, they learned it had the same license-plate number as the vehicle connected with the shooting.

After giving chase with the sirens on, police were able to pull the suspects’ vehicle over at the traffic lights at Melnea Cass Boulevard and Hampden Street. Officers surrounded the vehicle and ordered the driver to shut off the car and exit it.

At this time, the suspects’ vehicle drove off at a high speed inbound on Melnea Cass Boulevard before turning right onto Massachusetts Avenue. The suspects’ vehicle then drove down several side streets in an effort to evade police, eventually traveling outbound on Northfolk Avenue and colliding with two parked cars.

The suspects’ vehicle then pulled way from the wreckage after creating chain reaction in which five more parked cars were damaged.

Police were able to pull the suspects from their vehicle as its front end caught fire. They were transported to area hospitals for treatment.

While retracing the route of the suspects’ vehicle, police recovered a silver-and-black handgun with one live .40-caliber round from the roadway opposite 38 Norfolk Ave.

The driver of the suspects’ vehicle was subsequently charged with refusal to submit, negligent operation and assault by means of a dangerous weapon to wit a motor vehicle, as well as operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

Wakeup call

On Friday, Oct. 6, at about 9 p.m., police responded to a radio call for a sick assist/overdose at Newbury and Hereford streets.

Upon arrival, the officer observed paramedics treating an unconscious man inside an ambulance.

A witness on the scene told the officer that the man had entered Dosa Factory on Newbury Street and exited the restaurant a few minutes later. Shortly thereafter, several restaurant patrons observed the man slumped over on the sidewalk.

EMTs were able to revive the man with several shots of Narcan before transporting him to Brigham and Women’s Hospital for further treatment.
