D-4 POLICE NEWS
Maniac with a machete
On Monday, Nov. 20, at about 1:30 p.m., police responded to a radio call for a person with a knife at Newbury and Gloucester streets after a male suspect dressed in all black was seen swinging a large machete.
Officers located an individual matching the suspect’s description and placed him in handcuffs for their own safety before recovering a machete from inside his backpack.
The suspect told police he had ordered the machete from Amazon a few days earlier. He also said someone was trying to harm him, although he didn’t provide specific details.
Paramedics responded and attempted to conduct a psychiatric evaluation of the suspect due to his odd behavior and lack of explanation for his actions.
The suspect responded to all of the EMTs’ standard questions, but refused transportation to the hospital for further evaluation.
A witness on the scene told police she called 911 after observing the suspect swinging around the machete in a menacing manner. She said she was afraid the suspect was going to harm himself or someone else.
The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to District 4 headquarters for booking, while the machete and carrying sheath were seized as evidence.
Guys with knives
On Tuesday, Nov. 21, at approximately 7:38 a.m., officers responded to a radio call for a walk-in stab victim at Boston Medical Center at 840 Harrison Ave.
Upon arrival, police spoke to the victim, who provided them with his name, but refused to elaborate on why he was in the hospital. Officers observed a laceration to the victim’s left ear.
The victim said that he had been “jumped by three guys with knives” near Boylston Street and Massachusetts Avenue, but he was uncooperative and refused to answer any additional questions.
Bear-ly sober
On Tuesday, Nov. 21, at around 10:31 p.m., police responded to Harrison Avenue and East Berkeley Street for a reported robbery.
On arrival, officers located the victim, who said he was walking on Traveler Street, when an unknown female suspect and two unknown male suspect approached him.
The larger male suspect proceeded to wrapped his arms around the victim in a “bear hug,” while the second male suspect removed $184 cash from the victim’s front, left, pants pocket.
The suspect then fled on Traveler Street towards Albany Street.
Police noted that the victim, who appeared to be intoxicated, changed his story several times – first stating he was robbed on East Berkley Street, then saying it occurred on Traveler Street.
Officers searched the area for the suspects to no avail.
Fumbling around
On Wednesday, Nov. 22, at about 10:55 p.m., officers responded to a radio call for a breaking and entering in progress at 164 Newbury St.
Upon arrival, police met with the caller, who said he was working in his fourth-floor office, when he heard what sounded like glass breaking and someone “fumbling around” on the first floor. The caller then called police and left the office building via the back door before meeting officers out front.
After police observed a hole had been cut out of a glass pane in the door inside the building’s vestibule, police conducted a search of the building for the suspect(s) to no avail.
Officers locked and secured the front door to the building, which had no signs of forced entry, and notified District 4 detectives of the incident.
Police also advised the landlord to repair the vestibule door.
