Fenway Community Center Swings into High Gear

Following the grand re-opening celebration on Sept. 14, the Fenway Community Center has plenty of upcoming events—there’s something for everyone. Executive Director Robert Kordenbrock said that over 250 people attended the re-opening reception, and he was “ecstatic” by the turnout. He said that it confirmed what he had been told; that people genuinely want a space like this and want it to be successful.

Kordenbrock said the calendar is really filling up for the coming weeks and months. On Friday, Oct. 5, there will be a photography exhibit and reception featuring local photographer Matti Kniva Spencer from 4-8 p.m. Kniva currently lives in the South End, but lived in Fenway for 35 years. Kordenbrock said that his photography is up in the community center and will be up at the end of October. Refreshments will be served.

On Friday, Oct. 12, in partnership with CVS, the FCC will be offering a flu clinic for community members from 3-6 p.m., and refreshments will be served. Community members are encouraged to bring their insurance card.

On Tuesday, Oct. 16 from 6-7 p.m., the FCC will be hosting Fenway Pulse Check. Kordenbrock said that the idea behind this is to “provide community members a forum to come together and share and discuss with fellow neighbors what’s on their mind in the Fenway,” whether it be things they are excited or concerned about. Kordenbrock said that this is the first session, but it will be a monthly event.

On Thursday, Oct. 18 from 6-7:30 p.m., there will be joint office hours for State Senator Will Brownsberger and State Representative Chyna Tyler. This will give the Fenway community a chance for people to meet them and get to know them. “I’m hoping to continue to build that excitement and interest,” Kordenbrock said.

Kordenbrock also said there are also a number of group exercise offerings, including yoga once a week on alternating Monday mornings and Wednesday evenings. The FCC is also offering Sweat Remix boot camp, which is led by a local community member every Monday evening and Thursday morning. There was a sneak preview of the boot camp during the grand re-opening weekend, but now it will become a regular event.
