Remembering Robert L. Terrell

(June 12, 1951 – Jan. 29, 2025)

It was a shock to many of us that Bob Terrell recently died. There has been little information given.

Terrell was Executive Director of the Office of Fair Housing and Equity for the city and, before that, the Fair Housing, Equity, and Inclusion Officer for the Boston Housing Authority’ Racial Equity and Social Justice Initiative. In the past, he held leadership roles in many organizations, including the Roxbury Neighborhood Council, the Madison Park Development Corporation, and several other groups. I first knew him as the leader of the Washington Street Corridor Coalition which advocated for decent replacement service along Washington Street when the Boston El was coming down in 1987.

Even as a kid, Terrell was an activist, winning the South End Planning Council’s Flower Box contest seven years in a row.

Services were held at the Church of St. Augustine and St. Martin at 31 Lenox St. in Roxbury on Feb. 13.
