D-4 POLICE NEWS
Needle in a haystack
On Monday, Nov. 6, at about 4:43 p.m., members of the District 4 Drug Unit monitoring the area of Massachusetts Avenue and Washington Street for illegal activity observed two male suspects walking down the street at a fast pace while one of the parties made a brief call on his cell phone.
Both suspects were then seen walking into the alley behind 698 Massachusetts Ave. A plainclothes detective followed them to investigate and observed one of the suspects crouched over while attempting to inject heroin into the other man’s leg. After the detective displayed his badge and identified himself as a police officer, the suspect with the syringe immediately stood up and attempted to hand it to the other man. The suspect complied when the detective then ordered the suspect with the syringe to drop it on the ground.
The detective recovered the syringe for evidence and placed both suspects under arrest for possession of a Class a substance. They were subsequently transferred to District 4 headquarters for booking.
One suspect was also found to have a default warrant issued out of Lowell District Court.
Caught in the crossfire
On Monday, Nov. 6, at approximately 8:02 p.m., police responded to the area of Massachusetts Avenue and Boylston Street for a report of shots fired.
While police were en route to that location, a motor vehicle accident occurred at 333 Massachusetts Ave., where officers responded to and observed that a white Chevy Malibu had collided with a parked, black Toyota Camry. Officers approached the Malibu and saw an individual in the driver’s seat, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
In the driver’s seat of the Camry, police located an individual, who is known to them, suffering from injuries he sustained from the impact.
Both parties were removed from their respective vehicles and transported to different hospitals.
Both parties’ vehicles, along with a Subaru Forester, were heavily damaged and towed from the scene.
Police processed and secured the crime scene at about 1:09 a.m. as they awaited the arrival of additional officers from the Homicide and Crime Scene Response units.
Coffee to go
On Thursday, Nov. 9, at around 3:52 a.m., officers responded to a radio call for a breaking and entering at Starbucks at 185 Dartmouth St.
Upon arrival, police observed that the glass on the bottom portion of the front door was shattered. Officers entered the building and found that a side door leading to the adjacent building’s hallway had been left unlocked.
The shift-manager of the coffee shop arrived on the scene and contracted its security company, which in turn provided police with a description of the male suspect.
The manager said all the money was still in the safe, and that no other items appeared to be missing at that time.
Police canvassed the area for the suspect to no avail and recovered a brick believed to be used in smashing the front door as evidence.
