D-4 POLICE NEWS
Gun shy
On Tuesday, Jan. 23, at about 9:20 a.m., police responded to radio call for a weapon found at 199 Massachusetts Ave.
Upon arrival, the officer spoke to a building security guard, who said a maintenance worker had discovered the firearm while cleaning the apartment of a tenant who died three weeks earlier.
The building’s head of maintenance told police he had located several rounds of ammunition while cleaning the apartment of the deceased tenant on Jan. 22, and shortly thereafter, was notified that a worker had located a loaded firearm in the residence.
The officer unloaded the weapon before seizing it and the ammunition as evidence.
Rave rejects
On Friday, Jan. 26, at around 7:41 p.m., officers responded to the Residence Inn by Marriott at 125 Brookline Ave. for a report of a guest acting suspiciously.
On arrival, police spoke to the hotel manager, who said a guest had rented a room on Thursday, but when he attempted to extend his stay another night, his credit card was declined.
After learning that the guest had an open warrant, officers responded to his room with the hotel manager and placed him under arrest as he exited it.
Meanwhile, police could hear a commotion, but a bed sheet hanging in the doorway obstructed their view inside the room.
As officers entered, they observed a female inside the room, which had was set up in a “party-like atmosphere,” with laser-type lights flashing and music playing.
The female told police that another individual was in the bathroom, at which time they ordered him to show himself. After several requests, the man turned himself over to police, and a subsequent “pat-frisk” of his right pants pocket yielded a plastic bag containing a crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine. A zip-lock gag of a blue-colored crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine was also recovered during search of the man’s vest. He was placed under arrest for possession of a Class B substance.
Police also seized another bag of a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine from the bathroom.
The original male suspect was charged with possession of a Class B substance, as well as a Dec. 17 default warrant out of Lawrence District Court for carrying a dangerous weapon and forgery of a document.
The female was also charged with possession of a Class B substance.
Drunken discrimination
On Friday, Jan. 26, at approximately 8:50 p.m., police responded to Tony C’s Sports Bar & Grill at 1265 Boylston St. for a removal.
Upon arrival, officers spoke to the restaurant manager, who said an intoxicated female customer had been cut off at the bar and now wouldn’t leave the bathroom.
Police then spoke to the woman, who said wasn’t drunk and had only consumed three alcoholic beverages. She also volunteered to undergo a field sobriety test, although police deemed this unnecessary at the time.
Officer continued to talk to the woman for around 20 minutes, at which time she told them she felt she was being discriminated against because of her gender.
The woman’s friends eventually persuaded her to leave the premises, although she was uncooperative and abusive towards them as they attempted to assist her.
The bartender told police that one of the woman’s friends had asked him not to serve her anymore, and that he believed that she had enough to drink.
