Senator Nick Collins is backing a series of investments included in the House Fiscal Year 2027 budget aimed at improving public safety, expanding treatment and recovery services, and addressing persistent challenges in and around Mass & Cass.
The funding proposals reflect a collaborative effort among state and local leaders, public safety officials, service providers, and community stakeholders to address the complex challenges facing the area and improve quality of life for residents, businesses, and individuals in need of care.
“In order to implement effective change and improve conditions around Mass & Cass, we must fund the tools, personnel, and services necessary to get the job done,” said Senator Collins. “Public safety, treatment, and long-term stability all go hand in hand. These investments recognize that reality and help ensure we are meeting people where they are while making our neighborhoods safer for everyone.”
The House proposal includes investments aimed at strengthening public safety, expanding access to treatment and recovery services, supporting diversion and outreach efforts, and improving coordination among the organizations working on the front lines of the crisis.
Senator Collins has long advocated for a comprehensive approach to addressing the challenges facing Mass & Cass, one that recognizes that lasting progress requires partnership between the Legislature, the City of Boston, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office, public health professionals, service providers, and law enforcement.
The House and Senate are currently negotiating a final version of the Fiscal Year 2027 budget through a conference committee process.
