With the summer of ’26 at about its midpoint, District D-4 had seen a 4-percent reduction in incidents of violent and property crime from last year.
According to Boston Police, between Jan. 1 and July 12 of this year, 1,586 incidents of Part One crime were reported in the district, which includes the Back Bay, South End, Lower Roxbury, and the Fenway, compared to 1,648 during the same timeframe in 2025. This year saw a nearly five 5 percent-increase in Part One crime, over the district’s five-year average of 1,515 incidents.
The district saw one homicide this year, keeping pace with the district’s one homicide in ’25. The district’s five-year average for homicides was 1.2 incidents.
Rapes and attempted rapes in the district were down more than 78 percent this year as the number fell to five from 23 incidents last year, while the district’s five-year average for this category was 16.6 incidents.
Robberies and attempted robberies dropped nearly 13 percent, with the number falling to 48 from 55 incidents last year. The district’s five-year average for this category was 56.8 incidents.
Incidents of domestic aggravated assault spiked around 26 percent as the number climbed to 29 from 23 last year. The district’s five-year average for this category was 25.6 incidents.
Incidents of non-domestic aggravated assault, on the other hand, dropped slightly as the number fell to 98 from 100 last year. The district’s five-year average for this category was 99.6 incidents.
Incidents of commercial burglary were up 20 percent, with the number climbing to 36 from 30 last year. The district’s five-year average for this category was 29.4 incidents.
Incidents of residential burglary increased around 11 percent as the number climbed to 30 from 27 last year. The district’s five-year average for this category of 44 incidents was significantly higher than either this or last year’s counts.
Incidents of larceny from a motor vehicle were down nearly 62 percent, with the number falling to 95 from 248 last year. The district’s five-year average for this category was 208 incidents.
In contrast, other larcenies were up almost 11 percent as the number climbed to 1,189 from 1,075 incidents last year. The district’s five-year average for this category was 955 incidents.
Incidents of auto theft were down nearly 17 percent as the number fell to 55 from 66 last year. The district’s five-year average for this category was 78.4 incidents.
Citywide, Part One crime was up 2 percent as the number of incidents climbed to 8,533 from 8,373 last year. The city also seen a more than 5 percent increase in Part One crime incidents this year, compared to the five-year average of 8,093 incidents.
