POLICE NEWS

Thirsty indeed

On Monday, Aug. 8, at around 3:36 p.m., police responded to a radio call for a person shoplifting at Star Market at 53 Huntington Ave.

Upon arrival, officers spoke to a loss-prevention worker, who said a female suspect had just stolen several bottles of alcohol from the store. He told police he observed the suspect removing four bottles from a six-pack of Samuel Adams Porch Rocker beer and placing them in her bag.

As the suspect attempted to exit the store, two store employees confronted her and told her to return the stolen goods. The suspect attempted to rush past the two workers as they attempted to recover the beer from her. A scuffle ensued, during which the suspect bit the right bicep of one employee. The suspect then ran down Huntington Avenue towards Commonwealth Avenue with the employees in pursuit. Two bottles of beer were also recovered near the exit.

Police caught up with the suspect and the employees at Commonwealth Avenue and Dartmouth Street, where both employees recounted what had happened. The employees had also recovered two bottles of Hennessey cognac from the suspect, as well as the two bottles of beer still in her purse.

The suspect was arrested and charged with shoplifting under $250 and assault and battery.

Rat pack

On Tuesday, Aug. 9, at approximately 10:22 p.m., officers responded to a call for a robbery in progress at 370 Marlborough St.

At that location, police observed the victim sitting on the curb with a minor scrape on her right knee and minor swelling on the left temple area of her head.

A witness on the scene told officers that he was on the opposite side of Marlborough Street, when he observed a group of between 10 and 12 male and female teenagers walking westbound on the street. Suddenly, he heard a scream and saw the victim on the ground.

The witness ran over to the victim and asked if she required medical attention. The victim at first declined the offer, but after a few minutes, asked the witness to call EMTs to evaluate her.

As they waited for paramedics to arrive, the victim told police that she was walking home in the vicinity of Marlborough and Hereford streets when the group of teenagers approached her. She said one of the males punched her, although she didn’t see the individual that assaulted her. At this time, an unknown individual stole her iPhone before the group ran westbound on Marlborough Street towards Charlesgate West.

EMTs arrived on the scene and evaluated the victim, who refused to go to the hospital.

Police searched the area for the suspect to no avail.

Bad call

On Wednesday, Aug .10, at about 5:43 p.m., police responded to a radio call for a male trying to pull the driver out of a motor vehicle in the vicinity of 188 Marlborough St.

Upon arrival, officers observed other police already on the scene restraining the suspect against the side of a blue Nissan Altima in front of the Fairmont Copley Hotel.

The suspect, who was bleeding from his chin, was then handcuffed and seated on the curb.

Police spoke to a witness, who worked at the hotel and said a guest notified him of disturbance outside. When he went outside, the witness said he observed the suspect attempting to reach into the driver’s side window of the Nissan.

At this time, the driver got out of his vehicle and attempted to defend himself from the suspect. The suspect threw two punches at the victim, neither of which connected, before the victim struck the suspect, knocking him to the ground.

The driver told police he was stopped at a red light outside of the hotel, when he saw the suspect attempting to gain entry to another motor vehicle in traffic behind him. The suspect then approached the Nissan and attempted to gain entry to the victim’s vehicle through the front driver’s side window.

After the suspect attempted to steal the victim’s cell phone from the front seat of his car, the victim told the suspect to leave him alone before the struggle between the two individuals ensued.

Paramedics arrived on the scene and evaluated the suspect, who was then transported to Massachusetts General Hospital for medical treatment. EMTs told police the suspect appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, and that they had previously treated him for several other alcohol-related incidents.

Police was transported the suspect to the hospital without further incident, and police told him that he would be summonsed to court to face charges of assault, assault and battery and attempted larceny from a motor vehicle.
