This Sunday, May 21, will be the perfect time to get a haircut and support a good cause.
Brandon Latham of ICON Hair Studio (673 Tremont St.) will be giving haircuts for charity donations on from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to support Audrey Nethery, an child Internet sensation he has become acquainted with who is suffering from Diamond Blackfan Anemia.
“Audrey is truly like an angel of a little girl,” said Latham. “She has this life-threatening disease, but is always so happy and love to sing karaoke, which is how I found her. I just saw a video of her on YouTube that someone sent me and it just hit me. It was very emotional and resonated with me.”
When Latham was getting married, he messaged Audrey’s father and asked if she could provide a wedding song for him. She was more than grateful, and it was a bit of a bond.
Now, six months into opening his latest studio, Latham said he wanted to do something to give back to her.
“I have a skill and I want to help her,” he said. “I’ll be giving haircuts all day and donating all the money to her care and her foundation.”
Nethery, who lives in Kentucky, has already sent a thank you message to Latham.
“It’s one of those things that pulls the heart strings,” he said. “It touches your heart. I wanted to do this for Audrey; it’s that simple. I opened my business and it’s been six months and I never had a grand opening. I thought I would do something really good instead.”
Latham said he has been in the industry for 18 years, having had a Salon on Newbury Street for five years and in the South End previously as well.
There will also be great raffle items as well, including a teeth whitening package, trips passes for Rugged Maniac and other great gifts.
