OVERDOSE AWARENESS DAY

Boston Health Care for the Homeless has reached out to the South End Forum and to the South End community at large to partner with them in creating an “awareness event” that will help to raise awareness of overdose and reduce the stigma of drug-related deaths by humanizing the people impacted. It acknowledges the grief felt by families and friends and helps us to humanize those who have met with death or permanent injury as a result of drug overdose.

BHCH and the South End Forum are open to creative and impact ideas from the South End community, clearly the Boston neighborhood that has been affected most directly and most viscerally by the opioid epidemic and incidents of overdose.

One idea is an outdoor visual projection of the faces of those who have overdosed, their families, and the many others that incidents of OD have touched. We’re looking for the side of a building where Southenders and our guests and visitors will have a chance to see even a few moments of the projection and think about the impact that OD has on lives and our neighborhood.

International Overdose Awareness Day is on Aug. 31.
