She was inspired during a visit to a diner in Portland, Maine. The figures stood out, she could see so much about their characters even from behind. Teetering on the stools, they looked like two birds on a wire, like the dinner’s orders in the kitchen. Hale and other members of the Society held a reception for the annual Signature Show on Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Guild of Boston Artists on Newbury Street.
