Getting an earful

On Thursday, May 10, at about 8:34 a.m., police responded to a radio call for a robbery in progress at the corner of Berkeley and Newbury streets.

While en route, officers were advised by dispatch that the suspect had possible entered the Arlington Street MBTA station at Boylston and Arlington streets.

On arrival, police were flagged down by bystanders and, upon walking down the stairs to the station, met the victim, who said an unknown male suspect had physically snatched a pair of blue Beats By Dr. Dre headphones from her head before running towards Arlington Street.

The victim gave chase and was joined by a witness at the Parish Café, who also followed the suspect after hearing the victim scream for help.

Police stopped an individual matching the suspect’s description, but she was unable to positively identify him as the culprit.

At this time, a female witness pointed out another man on Providence Street, matching the suspect’s description, who immediately began running on Berkeley Street before taking a right on Arlington Street.

As police pursued the suspect on foot and in a marked cruiser, he began throwing items to the ground, including a wallet and a pair of blue Beat headphones.

Police ordered the suspect to the ground, and he complied. Once inside the police car, the suspect asked officers how they were able to identify him.

He was subsequently transported to District 4 headquarters, where has charged with one count of unarmed robbery and one count of receiving stolen property over $250.
